Education:

Ph.D., Civil Engineering, University of Texas at Austin

MSc., Civil Engineering, Zagazig University, Egypt

BSc., Civil Engineering, Zagazig University, Egypt

Research Topics:

Infrastructure management systems with emphasis on the role of construction management in sustainable infrastructure development; Data exchange standards and distributed computing in construction; Project planning and management with emphasis on Constructability, safety and information management; Business aspects of construction management: construction marketing and finance, risk analysis and decision making, strategic planning.

Objectives:

To participate in establishing research and course work that utilize real field experience and newly emerging technologies for enriching students' learning experience and creating safer more productive work environments. My goal is to make the Civil Engineering Department a point of interaction between the construction industry and academia.  Two major themes guide my work in the department:

bullet

Inter-disciplinary research and education: I believe in introducing operations research and computing concepts to civil engineering students.  Students need such background to be able to manage/communicate in the upcoming world of network-based design and construction.

bullet

Industry interaction: I envision a learning environment that creates partnership between the university and the industry.  In this partnership, students will get a hands-on learning experience in the field and industry leaders and faculty will work together to shape curriculum and research agenda.
