CIV 513S Load Tests of Plywood Towers

This page is a photographic record of towers built by students in CIV 513S in 2005 at the University of Toronto. The towers were load tested to failure on February 7, 2005 in the Structures Laboratory of the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Toronto.

Scoring of the competition was based on a set of criteria including strength, deformability, height, enclosed volume, weight, and accuracy of predicted strength. Congratulations to Andrew Hart and Jason Salonga, who were the overall winners. Congratulations also to Phil Goodfellow and David de Koning, who had the highest strength of 44.5 kN (10 000 pounds!).
